Solar Power

New design! 12v ammo can micro solar generator (more power, better cooling, new fuse block, less BS)

Took a few days to build a new 12v micro solar generator. We learn, grow, and get better over time. The first one was great…but, there were several things that needed improvement. First…cooling. Now cool air is sucked in from the bottom of the ammo box. The 12v brushless micro fan blows OUT from the top. The air inlet on the bottom uses a wire-mesh button vent (a ‘la Midnite Solar stuff). It is located under the AIMS Power PSW inverter (300w unit now). Air sucks in from the inverter’s fan and blows upward. Second, was the addition of a Blue Sea Systems fuse block (part number 5026). This made things 10x easier to wire…and less BS piggybacking. Third, relocating the SAE jacks to the side…the old one had them on the front…much more convenient now. Last, AC outlet on the back with a REAL receptacle. This SOLGEN is not 100% done…need to do some final tweaks.
Some other “random thoughts”
– 15 amp MPPT solar charger (12v configuration). One could hook up 1,000w in solar panels to this charger, but it will only output 15-amps. So, 12v x 15a = 180w. In a 24v configuration…360w. 60v max solar input voltage on this GreeSonic unit
– Lithium batteries would be nice! But, the cost for one this size (U1) is still quite high.
– Dual battery system here (35 ah x 2 batteries) So, using 50% DOD…about 420 watt/hours of safely extracted power. While the sun is up and using solar power…can power more loads. Just keep in mind…still have to charge the batteries at the same time
