We recently handled a very special wind power project in Bolivia and shipped 15 complete wind turbine generators disassembled in 165 components including 67m long blades weighing circa 80 tons each via the Parana-Paraguay Riverway. The heavy components were transported in two slots from the Port of Nueva Palmira, Uruguay, to a specially built port at Puerto Suarez, Bolivia. In total, we shipped 160,000 FRT on 16 x 2,500 ton specially adapted Hopper barges that were disassembled and reassembled to successfully navigate through the many restrictive areas of the riverway. This transport engineering solution was developed by Bertling’s in-house naval architects and heavy-lift engineers, who worked closely will all local transport partners involved.
